VStar 1300

Introduced for the 2007 model year, the VStar 1300 is the largest motorcycle in the VStar lineup.  There are two models, the VStar 1300 and the VStar 1300 Tourer.

The 1300 features an 80 cubic inch (1304 cc), 60 degree, liquid cooled, four valve SOHC V-Twin engine.  With a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and fuel injection, the engine produces plenty of power.  A five speed multiplate wet clutch transmission and belt drive deliver that power to the back wheel. The stock exhaust has a nice sound.

The 1300 has a sleek styling, which was the model for the 950’s styling. Seven spoke cast wheels add a nice looking touch to the overall package. The fuel tank holds 4.9 gallons and the fuel economy is an estimate 42 mpg, which gives a nice cruising range before a refueling stop.  A 28.1 inch seat high is the tallest in the VStar lineup, but is still low enough for many shorter riders. Reviewers of the 1300 say that the motorcycle has a very light and manageable feel.  With amenities like a heel-toe shifter and floorboards, it is an easy ride. One comment is that with the low seat height and the floorboards, the floorboards may touch down in corners if you get a little aggressive.  This was also noticed on the 950, but on both models will probably only be noticed by more experienced and aggressive riders.

The instrument cluster is mounted on the handlebars on the 1300, unlike the rest of the Vstar line.  Instrumentation contains analog speedometer along with LCD display; indicator lights for high beam, turn signal, low oil pressure, low fuel, coolant temperature, neutral—and engine diagnostic function.  2010 prices are $10,290 for the 1300 and $11,790 for the Tourer.
