The VStar 1100 is the 650’s larger brother. The appearance of the two are very similar, but the 1100 obviously has more to offer in the power department. The 1100 Classic and Silverado have a nice seven spoke wheel that distinguishes those models from the 650, with wire spoke wheels. The 65 cubic-inch (1063cc), air-cooled, SOHC, 75-degree V-twin is tuned for outstanding low and mid-range torque. Maximum torque is reached at only 2500 rpm. It has a 5 speed multiplate wet clutch transmission and shaft drive to the back wheel. The fuel delivery system is dual Mikuni carbs, which makes the design a little dated, compared to other motorcycles in this class that are fuel injected.
The seat height is 27.2 inches on the Custom and 27.9 inches on the Classic and Silverado, similar to the 650 and good for shorter riders. Braking is heftier on the 1100, with a front dual disk setup and hydraulic disk in the rear. A 4-1/2 gallon tank and average of 44 mpg will get you well down the road before a refueling stop is required. The wet weight of the custom is 606 pounds, just slightly lighter than the 950.
One fairly common complaint about this model is vibration felt by the rider at highway speeds. We would like to hear from owners of the 1100 about their opinion on the vibration issue. The styling on this motorcycle is pure cruiser. It features lots of chrome accents to enhance the appearance. The Custom model runs a little of $9,000, the Classic is a couple hundred more, and the Silverado is just over $10,000. Overall, this motorcycle is a decent bike for the money, although we prefer the updated features in the 950, like the belt drive and the fuel injection.
